A change in American policy has created huge headaches for Canadians
who feel the urge to travel south of the border from time to time.
Since Jan. 23, Canadians flying to the U.S. have had to possess a valid
passport.
The new rule — part of the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative —
led to long lineups at passport offices across the country and a huge
backlog as Passport Canada was inundated with a surge in the number of
applications.

Friday Nov 25, 2005 nyt Last-Minute Family Trip: We'll Take Paris By MICHELLE SLATALLA Travel Web sites like Orbitz.com can help when planning a holiday trip for the family.
Wed Oct 26, 2005 Wed1234 A major glitch in the evolution of this process is the proposed requirement of The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 for everyone crossing the Canada-U.S. border to carry a passport Given that only some 20% of Americans hold passports (while a much higher percentage, some 60%, of Canadians do), the effect on tourism, cross-border shopping and social contacts could be drastic. And what about trade? Will every truck driver, U.S. and Canadian, have to have a passport? The Prime Minister raised the issue with Condoleezza Rice when she was in Ottawa last week, however, this, like the softwood lumber dispute, may be an area where the White House and State Department have little if any say.

Monday Jan 13, 2003 Calling Card Theft
Most problems when using phones away from home occur when someone steals your calling-card-number – often eavesdropping or using binoculars to watch which buttons you push when making a call at a public pay phone. Pay phones located in areas with many windows are particularly susceptible to fraud as thieves can watch from a distant location through the use of a zoom lens.
Friday Feb 21, 2003 OTTAWA: GOVT. TELLS TRAVELLERS TO BE CAUTIOUS
The Canadian government has warned Canadians travelling abroad to use
"extreme caution" because of the international tension stemming from
the Iraq crisis and the continuing threat of terrorism. The foreign
affairs department says travellers should show special caution when
they find themselves in commercial, public or tourist areas, as well
as all areas frequented by foreigners. The department also suggests
travellers keep all important documents in one place. They should
also have enough cash to deal with an emergency. And travellers
should keep in touch with Canadian consulates and embassies.

Click the Start button, then point to Settings and double click on Add/Remove Programs
Select the Windows Setup tab
Click on the Communications check box
Highlight Communications and click on the Details… button
Click the Direct Cable Connection check box
Now click OK and you will be prompted to insert a Windows 95 disk.
Just follow the instructions to complete the installation of your Direct Cable Connection component.

Air Travel
1. Reserve aisle seats! If you are a couple, try to get seats on the aisle across from each other, and you will likely get empty seats next to you for sleeping, plus walk-about access.
2. DO NOT check any thing you value or must have on arrival, as they may lose your bags, especially with lengthy security checks for connecting luggage.
