Sculptor reflects on his works

Herbert'a art OWNFormer city councillor Herb Bercovitz has been fascinating members at Wednesday Night for the last month with an adhoc exhibition of some of his more recent statues.
While members have been trying to define what the statues mean, Bercovitz has been tight-lipped. When asked about his favourite work, he replied that his ‘Family Tree’ sculpture might be appropriate.
Herbert'a art OWN“It was displayed at my Victoria Hall exhibition last year and the thought is that, throughout the world, people may be different, but as individuals we are all very similar.” Bercovitz has been sculpting for more than 20 years. He works mostly in marble and alabaster, but his recent pieces have been metal. He does not design his pieces before he starts, but instead prefers to let the image emerge from the stone.
“He lets the stone talk to him and comes up with many beautiful pieces of work,” said Wednesday Night founder David Nicholson. “We are very proud to support Herb,” To see more go to
