Margaret Lefebvre Appointed to the National Research Council of CanadaOTTAWA, November 2, 2006 — The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), today appointed Ms. Margaret Lefebvre as a member of the Council.
"Ms. Lefebvre's experience and knowledge in science and research will bring rich and diverse contributions to the Council as it continues to further its work," said Minister Bernier.
Margaret Lefebvre has had the opportunity to serve on several boards, including the working group to create a national science organization, the Council of Canadian Academies. Ms. Lefebvre is currently the Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Income Funds.
Recognized globally for research and innovation, the NRC is a leader in the development of an innovative, knowledge-based economy for Canada through science and technology.

Lefebvre up for distinction award
Former Mayor Peter Trent took time recently from his ongoing battle for municipal demergers to nominate former city councillor Margaret Lefebvre for a 'Woman of Distinction' award from the Women's Y Foundation of Montreal.
The annual awards publicly recognize exceptional Montreal women who have distinguished themselves by their social commitments and their contribution to the advancement of women. There are three finalists in each of 12 categories. Lefebvre was nominated in the Public Affairs category for her work among other involvements as the president of the public think tank the 'Couchiching Institute'. Other contributions to the community include vice president of Alliance Quebec, member of the board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and involvement in the opening of Project Chances, an ongoing support home for young single mothers.
The other two contestants in the category are Josee Legault and Jennifer Stoddard. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on May 1 at the Sheraton Centre. Tickets can be purchased by calling the YWCA at 866-9941 ext. 289.

Active in community affairs, Margaret Lefebvre has represented numerous associations to government bodies such as the provincial Belanger Campeau Commission (1990) and the federal Standing Committee on Finance, then chaired by the Honorable Jim Peterson (1996). She also is involved in developing health care and education public policy proposals for a number of non-government organizations, including the English Speaking Catholic Council and Alliance Quebec.
Margaret Lefebvre grew up in Montreal and has lived in Boston, Edmonton and Vancouver. She attended Boston University, obtained her BA. in Philosophy form Sir George Williams University in Montreal and has pursued studies at Concordia in science and at McGill University in law.
She has served as a Director with a number of business, academic social service and artistic groups.
Currently she is President of The Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs , and until Jan 1, 2002, City Councilor in the City of Westmount, Quebec, responsible for administration and pension fund management, and a national Director of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. She is a frequent speaker and moderator in the field of public policy
