Saturday 09 August 2008 OTTAWA: HUNDREDS PROTEST AGAINST CHINESE GOVT.
Almost 300 protesters demonstrated against the policies of the Chinese government in the capital on Thursday, the eve of the opening of the Beijing Games. The protesters represented Tibetan, Taiwanese and Uighur groups, as well as the Falungong spiritual movement and NGOs like Reporters Without Borders. Federal Liberal Party Member of Parliament and former Justice Minister Irwin Cotler said the demonstrators represented many causes but that each stood for people who have suffered human rights abuses at the hand of the Chinese authorities. The protesters also criticized China's economic relations with Sudan which they claimed are prolonging the conflict in Darfur.

Wednesday 06 August 2008 OTTAWA: RIGHTS LOBBY TO DELIVER PETITIONS AHEAD OF GAMES
Amnesty International Canada says it will deliver petitions to the Chinese embassy on Wednesday to demand the restoration of human rights ahead of the Olympic Games in Beijing, which start later this week. Amnesty says the petitions include 1,700 cards bearing personal messages. The rights lobby also says that 65,000 Canadians have endorsed Amnesty's Internet-based campaign to free human rights activists in China, including the Canadian Hussein Celil. The group says the human rights situation has worsened because of the Olympics. The Canada Tibet Committee and other groups were to hold a rally on Thursday in front of the Chinese embassy.
Dr. Allenna Leonard was the partner of Stafford Beer, the father of management cybernetics and such processes as the Viable Systems Model (he was an architect of Allende's Chile) and Syntegrations, both organizational diagnostic and planning tools. She continues his work to some extent and has her own consulting practice for social processes (her PhD was in Administration) and specializes in NGOs.
I (Penny Colville) am a humble MA and a systems fan especially in relation to education, training, content management and human performance improvement methods.
